Tom, with 47 years of Extended Employment Sheltered Workshop service, has pulled the retirement trigger… on “retirement.”
Tom was a laid-off city worker who took a job as a truck and van driver at Opportunity (OWI) in Stanberry. He quickly advanced up the ranks and has proven to be a “stalwart” of this choice.
He has shepherded the workshop through a major fire (complete loss), the loss of a major customer (95% of their business), and the development of a product through an amazing vendor partnership with their customer, which is now seen worldwide in the “line business.”
Speaking of this partnership, in this supplier/vendor relationship, the workshop has the “financial responsibility in component of the product” until sale.
While some might scoff at having 7+ figures tied up in their own inventory, to Tom and his team, it’s just another Monday, with shipping deadlines for local, national, and international shipments on Tuesday and Thursday.
